About Designer Living Kitchens
A bit about Designer Living Kitchens..
Designer Kitchens – There’s no doubt that your kitchen is the most important room in the house. It’s where you gather to share a meal – and talk about your day. It’s a place to entertain friends and family. To laugh and talk about the day over a meal.
When you’re designing your dream kitchen, you want to make sure that it ticks the boxes on style and utility.
Not only does it need to suit your lifestyle, but your kitchen design should also be practical – with enough room to make food preparation a breeze, it’s easy to clean, and it provides you with plenty of storage.
The same can be said when you’re renovating other parts of your home – whether it’s your laundry or your bathroom vanity. For more info about designer kitchens, contact us

The team at Designer Living Kitchens will transform your vision into reality
For over 25 years, the team at Designer Living Kitchens have been designing and manufacturing high-quality, custom-built kitchens and joinery for both home renovators and new home builders.
Our commitment is to provide you with a professional, friendly, and personal experience throughout the entire project.
Building beautifully designed kitchens takes skill and careful attention to detail. Our team of experienced staff are committed to a job well done.
We have three factories – at Port Macquarie, Tuggerah, and a small factory on the Queensland Gold Coast. Our sites are equipped with the latest machinery and software to ensure our joinery is made to your exact specifications and is of the best possible quality.
Using our state-of-the-art computer software programs, we can tell you how your job is tracking at any stage.
We know it’s important to stay in touch, so once your job starts, we’ll be in touch as your job progresses.
We offer a free in-home design service for homeowners, or an onsite service for our retail or small builders from our five locations – Port Macquarie, Laurieton, Coffs Harbour, Tuggerah, and Helensvale in Queensland.
Home renovations can be disruptive. So, we always aim to keep a clean and tidy workspace, especially at the end of a workday. It’s all part of the service.

04.
Our workshop jumps into action
Generally, it takes around 4 to 6 weeks to make your kitchen joinery. For a small kitchen or laundry, or for a simple cabinetry job, we’ll be a bit quicker. Time frames can change, but we’ll always keep in touch to let you know how we’re progressing and to set-up key dates for removal of your current kitchen and installation of the new one.
05.
We’ll put you in touch with reliable tradies
During the manufacturing period, it’s a good time for you to line-up other trades, like plumbers, tilers, and electricians. We have a list of reliable tradespeople we work with and are happy to recommend. We can also arrange a skip bin for the removal of your old kitchen, laundry, or joinery.
06.
Ready to install
Once we’ve arranged a mutually agreeable time to install, we start work.
As every project is different, we’ll discuss how long it will take to complete your new kitchen once we’re clear.
The story of Designer Living Kitchens
Our company had an ownership and name change in late 2011 to what is now Designer Living Kitchens. It was known as “Olsen’s Joinery “for the last 25 plus years. It’s still a family run business with two brothers and their wive’s now running the company.
On March the 1st 2014 in the early hours. Tragedy stuck the company. There Manufacturing plant burnt to the ground in Acacia Ave Port Macquarie (See photo’s in gallery).
Within 3 weeks 3 days we had found a new location (“The Port News Complex” in Milton Circuit Port Macquarie) and trucked in new state of the art automated equipment and were back on our own two feet.
The owners said, they couldn’t have done it without good insurance and great suppliers. Plus their dedicated staff that worked all but around the clock to get things back on track.
Late 2011
It begins..
In late 2011, we took over Olsen’s Joinery, a long-standing, multi-generational business. Having started at Olsen’s as an apprentice, Jamie Barnes never left! Joined by his brother Todd, the Barnes brothers are continuing the family-owned tradition. Our wives Belinda and Penny are also integral to the business, coordinating customer service and admin behind the scenes. Over the years we’ve built-up a great team of experienced tradespeople as well as trained many young apprentices.
2014
Fire hits..
This was the year we lost our one and only manufacturing plant in Port Macquarie to fire. Our dedicated staff worked around the clock to get us back on our feet. Within three weeks, we found a new location, installing new cutting-edge automated equipment – and we were back up and running!
2016
Expansion..
We expanded the business by acquiring HK Joinery Design and in the process, upgraded the machine and systems in line with our other sites.
2017
Queensland..
In May, we opened a warehouse/small factory in Southeast Queensland. Up until then, we needed to truck the joinery to our sites and stay overnight into Queensland. This really improved our delivery times.
2018
Panda Kitchens..
Always looking for an opportunity to service more customers, we acquired Panda Kitchens at Warners Bay. This location is a design and supply-only location. Our aim is to give DIY customers an opportunity to save money. We’ll provide you with a list of reliable local installers so, if you choose, you can deal directly with the installer or you can opt to do it yourself. This was also the first year we won the HIA Northern NSW award for Kitchen Design. (We were rapt when we went on to win the same award in the following two years.)
2019
Helensvale..
We moved to our well-equipped Helensvale factory and showroom.
